Mesh Growth uses the differential growth algorithm for modelling advanced geometry. This mimics morphogenesis and is based on the natural growth cycles of plant cells. The project studies the geometric diversity of growing mesh shells from an artistic standpoint to elaborate on computational design. Therefore, it utilises the modeling concept of growth as a general design technique.
Differential growth is a deterministic algorithm to grow structured point clouds. Iteratively, the algorithm is relaxing and inserts points to a point cloud. A mesh is a structure in computational geometry based on points represented through vertices, which are interfaced by the differential growth algorithm and allow this geometry type to grow.
