The world is devoting a great deal of attention to building sustainability. Passive Solar Blossom utilises a special metal material called shape memory alloy (SMA). The metal is used to design a set of mechanical structures and responsive façades that can open and close according to different temperatures. This process uses renewable energy.
The most important logical sequence in the project is: the change of temperature; the change of SMA length; disk rotation; and the control of the responsive façade opening and closing. When the disk starts to rotate it moves in four directions, with the four sliders moving together and the façade changing the state as well.
The use of material properties to develop new mechanical structures is a very advanced design in the field of sustainability. In future testing sessions, the project will extend multiple units to ensure that the entire module works properly.
