Ecolocks

Project details

Programme
Cluster RC4

Ecolocks applies automated technology to housing design and uses recycled plastic as its primary building material. It is a circular building process where plastic waste is stored in housing projects as building blocks after its removal from the sea. The platform provides people with free, flexible housing that can be disassembled and rebuilt in a different location after the contract ends.

Ecolock's proposal creates an opportunity for high-polluting companies to pay for recycled materials to offset their waste and pollution. High density poly ethylene (HDPE) is feasible and strong. It can be recycled ten times and has a 500-year lifespan. We have designed an algorithm to compute where and how to interlock discrete building blocks, avoiding the need for traditional jointing or post-tension systems. Augmented Reality (AR) technology will assist technicians in building construction. The discrete interlocking system forms infinite combinations and variations, suitable for different dimensions of configurations. Machine learning automatically generates the floor plans according to user needs. We provide a variety of apartment types and translate the plan into architectural models.

Project Proposal

Project Proposal

Ecolocks proposes a circular economy policy. Polluting companies will pay for the reusable plastic building materials to offset their pollution. The local council will provide the land and the plastic waste will become housing.
