Terra

Project details

Programme
Cluster RC4

Terra is a sustainable initiative exploring the non-traditional application of rammed earth construction. The project fully investigates the constraints of the material and turns it into a new aesthetic through aggregation.

Studies on wave function collapse yield intricate patterns that benefit natural light reception in each apartment unit. Machine learning-based Pix2Pix further improves sunlight reception through human input of preferences towards branched out architectural typologies. The structural system is reinforced with an innovative gradient system of earth concrete mixture. On top of that, interlocking timber trusses secure the conjunction of components and evolve into a façade system that shields the structure from rainfall erosion and overheating. Terra opens up new pathways for incorporating robotics during the ramming process to automate the creation of low embodied carbon residential communities.
