This project aims to develop a material relationship between fast fashion and waste, textile and architecture. The rapid expansion of the garment industry and its mounting by-products, including off-cut fabric, have irreversibly affected our precious natural environments.
Fast Fashion Architecture aims to up-cycle fabric made with non-biodegradable synthetic fibre. Woven strands of polyester yarns cannot be undone or refashioned. This research uses heat to bind used fabric as construction bricks. Do speed and cheap production mean inferior quality? The responsible use of material in architecture comes with a cost, one that cannot be hurried.
Blocks made of shredded fabric are bonded with heat and applied in a grid on each face of the block.
